12-Meridians Clock for Optimal Wellness
Each meridian is assigned to 12 two-hour intervals of the Qi (vital force) moving through the organ system when it’s most abundant and strong. Chinese Medicine practitioners use The Organ Body Clock, also known as 12-Meridians Clock to help them determine the organ responsible for diseases. The Body-Energy Clock is built upon the concept of the cyclical ebb and flow of energy throughout the body, allowing us to maximise the health benefits by following corresponding timings to the body’s meridian schedule.
- 5am-7am is the time of the Large Intestine, making it a perfect time to have bowel movements and remove past-day toxins. It is also the ideal time to wash your body and comb your hair, as it is believed to help clear out energy from the mind.
- 7am-9am is the time of the Stomach, so it is important to eat the biggest meal of the day during this time to optimize digestion and absorption. Warm meals that are high in nutrition are best in the morning.
- 9am-11am is the time of the Pancreas and Spleen, when enzymes are released to help digest food and release energy for the day ahead. This is the ideal time to exercise and work, so we recommend doing your most taxing tasks for the day at these hours.
- 11am-1pm is the time of the Heart, which will work to pump nutrients around the body to help provide you with energy and nutrition. This is also a good time for lunch and it is recommended to have a light, cooked meal. Alternatively, having a one hour nap or a cup of tea also works.
- 1pm-3pm is the time of the Small Intestine and it is when food eaten earlier will complete its digestion and assimilation. This is also a good time to go about daily tasks or perform exercises.
- 3pm-5pm is the time of the Bladder, when metabolic wastes move into the kidney’s filtration system. We advise drinking another cup of tea as drinking sufficient water helps aid detoxification processes. This is also the perfect time to study or complete brain-challenging work.
- 5pm-7pm is the time of the Kidneys, when blood is filtered and proper chemical balance is maintained. This is the perfect time to have dinner and activate your circulation either by walking, having a massage, or stretching.
- 7pm-9pm is the time of Circulation, when nutrients are carried through the capillaries and to each cell. This is the perfect time to read, but avoid doing mental activities around these hours. On a side note, this is also the perfect time to conceive.
- 9pm-11pm is the time of Endocrine System, where the body’s homeostasis is adjusted and enzymes are replenished. It is recommended to sleep at this time so the body can conserve energy for the following day.
- 11pm-1am is the time of the Gallbladder, and in order to wake up feeling energized, the body should be at rest. In Chinese medicine, this period of time is when the ‘yin’ energy fades and the ‘yang’ energy begins to grow. ‘Yang’ energy helps keep you active during the day and is stored when you are asleep.
- 1am-3am is the time of the Liver, and it is a time when the body should be asleep. Toxins are released from the body and fresh new blood is made. If you find yourself waking up during these hours, you might have too much ‘yang’ energy or are experiencing problems with your liver or detoxification pathways.
- 3am-5am is the time of the Lungs, and once again, this is the time when the body should be asleep. If you happen to be awake, nerve-soothing exercises are recommended, like breathing exercises. The body should be kept warm at this time too to help the lungs replenish the body with oxygen.
